Operations consulting and Odoo implementation for SMBs

A clear migration path

An organization running Odoo for its internal operations needed to upgrade and was asking whether the Enterprise edition was still justified. We built the plan before touching any data.

The challenge

Two linked decisions, and no margin for error on the data.

Staying on an old version was getting costly, but a poorly prepared migration could break customizations and put data at risk. At the same time, a question came up: did the Enterprise features actually in use justify the subscription?

  • Customizations whose impact on a new version was unknown.
  • Enterprise features used unevenly.
  • Operational data that could not tolerate any loss.
Our approach

The plan first, the migration second.

  1. 1

    Take stock of what exists

Installed modules, customizations, reports, automations and data volumes.

  2. 2

    Analyse the edition

For each Enterprise feature in use: its real usage, a Community or OCA alternative, and the effort to replace it.

  3. 3

    Chart the migration path

The versions to go through, the order of steps and what must be adapted at each one.

  4. 4

    Rehearse on a copy

A trial migration on a copy of the data, followed by reconciliation checks.

  5. 5

    Plan the cutover

Downtime window, sign-off by key users and a rollback plan.

The solution

A marked path, validated at every step.

Each step has its own exit criteria: we only move on once the previous one is validated.

The trial migration on a copy lets us fix customizations and migration rules before touching production.
